SMART LIVINGComfy and Cute
Find the perfect shoe that is pretty and practical.

By Jenny Watkins
I’ll have to admit, my feet are a victim of the fashion-overfunction mentality. Sure Crocs are comfortable but do I really want to pair them with a dress or nice slacks, just for the sake of comfort? Not really.

Thankfully, it’s not difficult these days to find shoes in Birmingham that are both practical and stylish. Dee Tipps, owner of a.k.a. Girl Stuff in Homewood, swears by the Dr. Scholl’s line she sells in her boutique. “They started using a new designer about a year ago and they are so cute,” she says. “I wear them in the store all day and no hurting!” Clarks at the Summit offers a variety of the un structured brand which “brings in outside air through small holes and pushes it up through the side,” according to Manager Michael Rosenberg. The shoes have a lambskin lining, which is soft and keeps feet at a constant cooler temperature. Other shoes maintain an average temperature of 115 degrees, according to Rosenberg.

Privo and Indigo by Clarks for women are hot sellers yearround at Shoefly Shoe Boutique in Homewood. “These shoes are designed with traveling and a lot of walking in mind and are consistently our customers’ favorites for a shoe that provides comfort and support while still focusing on being fashionable as well,” says Manager Ashley Prewitt. Other selections shoe shoppers will want to check out at Shoefly include the “Ping Palm” by Kenneth Cole, Volatile wedges and the “Sallie” by Diba.

Since options are plentiful, we’ve narrowed down a few additional locations and brands that you should check out on your comfy/cute quest.
