 It’s time for the beautiful people once again. Each June we indulge ourselves with a multi-page photo essay crammed to the brim with beautiful people.

For the rest of us, (perhaps we can be gently called the less than beautiful yet still mildly okay to look at) we get to look on in endless fascination. So indulge along with us and get to know the beautiful people of Birmingham, captured in our pages this month.

On June 5th we’ll be bringing the pages to life at our Beautiful People party to be held at icon restaurant at the Tutwiler. Stop by and you can see the beautiful people up close…

Closets hold endless fascination for me. Full of things we've forgotten; things we never really knew we had. The best, most fascinating closets hold memories, dreams, frustrations, triumphs — all the stuff of life held away from the light and air until we open the door and look inside. Sometimes I guess the more mundane closets hold only clothes.

When my father passed away, we went through his clothes and I kept a bright blue, corduroy outer jacket with a huge outlined basketball stitched in yellow thread on the breast with his named etched in the center of it. He was a volunteer coach for my junior high basketball team one year and he received a coat in honor of an out-of-character championship season we enjoyed.

Frayed and faded, that coat is in one of the closets at our house — waiting for me to tell its story to someone or touch the ridges of its corduroy fabric or quietly close the door and just remember...
