Art on the Rocks
(5-10 p.m., Friday) The Dynamites performing. Art on the Rocks looks to environmental protection as it begins its fourth season. All paper products from invitations to beverage cups will be made from recycled material. Look for recycling receptacles around the museum and Sculpture Garden during the events to discard bottles. Even the signature T-shirts will be made of organic cotton. Also, while talking to friends in the garden, take a look around at the sculptures by Charlie Lucas — all configured with salvaged materials. Ride of Love
(6 a.m., Saturday) A 150-mile bicycle ride traveling through the beautiful countryside of Alabama headed to Camp Smile-A-Mile. This ride is unique since you not only ride for the cause but you get to meet the children that you have ridden and raised money for. This ride helps to kick off the first camping session of the summer. Pre-registration required. (9 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday) Impress your family and friends and learn how to barbecue from the pros! Join Sloss for a fun-filled day of grilling and learning how to select, prepare and cook barbecue pork shoulder, ribs, beef brisket and chicken. All you’ll need is something to jot down notes for your secret recipe book. Lunch will be provided from the food cooked during the class which will also include beans, slaw and drinks. Do Dah Day
(11 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday) Celebrating and benefiting animals. The parade — an eclectic mix of floats, people dressed as animals and animals dressed as people — moves down Highland Avenue at precisely 11:01 a.m. The party continues all afternoon with live music from local and regional bands in Caldwell and Rhodes parks. Locust Fork
(9 p.m., Saturday) After 30 years, most bands undergo too many changes and crumble. Not true for Southern favorites The Locust Fork Band. The band plays music ranging from western swing to country and rock ‘n’ roll. They have long been known for their high-powered guitar jams. With a legion of fans that date back to the band’s early days in Tuscaloosa and an ever-increasing base of new fans, The Locust Fork Band is still going strong. City Stages Battle
of the Bands

(8 p.m., Sunday) Each year, the City Stages Junior Board holds a Battle of the Bands competition for bands throughout the Southeast region to give them a chance to perform on the main stage at City Stages! Arty Party
(3-6 p.m., Sunday) "Hats off to Arty Party," a live and silent art auction event to benefit the Birmingham AIDS Outreach. The featured artist is Veronique Vanblaere, and the honorary chair is Patty McDonald. Tickets to Arty Party are $50 per person and may be purchased in advance from BAO or at the door.
