As you might have suspected by the coloration and the content we have turned green this month. In what has to be a defining moment for our planet, people are focusing on living a green lifestyle.

We thought we would analyze that trend by taking our normal editorial lineup and developing a green orientation. So in most of the departments and features in this issue, you will find a focus on the greening of our lives. As we were planning for this issue we spent time trying to come up with the varied ways a green lifestyle can make an impact on our lives, and we found the tentacles reaching into every corner. Throughout this issue you will find that very same phenomenon played out throughout our pages.

We found green businesses, green community initiatives, green shops. Turns out Kermit was wrong, it is becoming easier and easier to be green.

Take our homes for example. A green home uses less energy, water and natural resources, creates less waste and is healthier for the people living inside. It’s as simple as that!

A home can be built green, or you can make it green later. A green makeover can happen all at once, or it can be a gradual process. But what it all comes down to is a new way of thinking—and a new way of living. From a more energy-efficient kitchen to a tree-filled backyard paradise, your home can be green top to bottom, front to back, inside and out. And it doesn’t matter whether you rent or own, live in an apartment or single-family home, or live in the city, the suburbs or the country.

One of the most important aspects of living green is eating green. So we have devoted a good portion of our issue to the enlightened food business—stores, producers, restaurateurs—and its focus on locally produced, high-quality food.

The green lifestyle can make a difference in our world, but like most major developments the real secret to success are the series of small decisions made day by day.
