the rehersal dinner dress

The Rehersal Dress

Heidi debuted the fi rst in a two-day parade of dresses during the rehearsal dinner at Rucker Place. The gown was her mother’s wedding dress. Heidi updated it by removing the neck and sleeves, then converting it into a fl amenco dress with pockets. The gown was accented with purple shoes and earrings.

“I love old things and vintage things, and it’s a way to bring that part of me into the whole scheme,” she says.

Heidi walked down the aisle of Mountain Brook Community Church in an off-white Italian silk peau de soie gown with pink ombré buttons down the back. Her Italian leather gloves mimicked the pair that her grandmother, Eleanor, wore at her wedding. Heidi wore heels that her mother and grandmother wore in their weddings.

Heidi and Jeff say the ceremony was simple, emphasizing their union and shared faith. Premarital counseling with MBCC Associate Pastor Kevin DeLaney was one of their favorite parts of the experience. “It was a very special thing for us to spend time in the word together and have Bible study before everything,” Jeff says. “That kept everything in perspective and kept us grounded.”

The Reception Dress

Heidi changed into an ethereal ball gown made of silver metallic brocade with an overlay of sparkly tulle for the masquerade ball reception. The bodice was made of silver Italian silk peau de soie. The straps were Swarovski crystals, and Heidi completed the princess experience with her fi rst pair of Manolo Blahnik heels.

After dancing to the 17-piece orchestra Ain’t Misbehavin’, the couple explored food stations throughout the Alabama Theatre, all catered by Kathy G and designed to represent their passions. A concession stand paid homage to their ballpark childhoods, his-andhers stations offered Jeff’s beloved breakfast foods and Heidi’s country favorites, and a Halloween room was a tribute to the party that began their relationship. The fi rst movie they watched together, The Notebook, showed as the orchestra played.

“We didn’t want it to be stuffy, even though you’re in gowns,” Heidi says. “We’re not that serious. We have fun, and we laugh and play.”

Masked servers presented guests with a playbill detailing the night’s events, with a map of where each was located. After the cake was cut and the bouquet tossed, rock band Allied took the stage, and Heidi changed into a lace party dress. The mini dress with cap sleeves was made of one-of-a-kind Italian alençon lace and had pink buttons down the back.

Heidi paired the dress with pink shoes.

Heidi and her mother kicked off the dancing as the band played “Sweet Child of Mine,” and the evening ended around midnight with guests chanting “one more song!” Heidi and Jeff left the reception under a rain of confetti and streamers, then walked several blocks to the Tutwiler Hotel.
